A few weeks ago, we were invited to a bloggers dinner for the second time. This bloggers dinner was held by Fimela, Grand Indonesia, and Yukmakan.com. We got a chance to have a food tasting at one of relatively new restaurants at GI named Tairyo. Tairyo is a Japanese restaurant with teppanyaki as their specialty. This restaurant interior looked more like a chinese restaurant, so we don’t think this is an authentic Japanese resto. They served 11 teppanyaki dishes, here is the menu:
1. Garlic Sauce Oyster2. Tairyo’s Sauced Cod Fish 3. French Lamb Chop 4. Grilled US Flank Bone 5. Sliced High Rib Beefsteak 6. Great Fishing Gold Steak 7. Mushroom Beef Roll 8. Boiled Ox Tongue with Red Wine Sauce 9. Grilled Chicken Steak with Garlic sauce 10. Fried Rice with Garlic 11. Banana Flambee
They also served salmon sashimi, which was preceeded by salmon sashimi slicing demo. The salmon sashimi was juicy and has a very good texture. Although it was written that there are ten main dishes, it turns out the chef was inconsistent. The chef didn’t cook in a sequence according to the menu. At first we didn’t see it as a problem. But surprisingly, they changed the cod fish into gindara fish. The chef also kept on asking us whether we want the dish or not as if the menu was a list of choices. But overall, the chef was friendly and talkative.
The high ribs and the ox tongue were very tender. They have high quality meats and seafoods which is their best. But we think their marinades are subpar. As the chef said, Tairyo has its signature sauce that made from soy sauce, butter, salt, pepper, and green onion. They used it in almost every dish, so it all taste the same, except the ox tongue dish which had a little bit different taste.
For dessert, they served Banana Flambee which is one of their recommended menus. Banana Flambee is basically fried bananas topped with vanilla ice cream, cooked with teppanyaki style and flaming attraction. We’ve tried this kind of banana dessert years ago. It tastes very good, but not so special.
Overall, the foods are ok, and Tairyo is a good choice for those who’s looking for classic teppanyaki restaurant.
